ARTANA WINES

Artana, Georgia

Since 2014 the Akhvlediani family has been making wine in the village of Artana, located in Kakheti on the southern slopes of the Caucasus, where they’ve lived for generations. The location is considered one of the best areas in Georgia for growing regionally specific grapes like Saperavi, Kisi, Tavkveri, and Rkatsiteli.

Taso Akhvlediani has taken on the family tradition of making wine using these grapes and the qvevri that is so important to Georgian winemaking. The vineyard is dry farmed, grapes are hand harvested, and yeast is naturally occurring. After spending time in qveveri and going through spontaneous fermentation, the wines of Artana are bottled without filtering or fining. The Akhvlediani family are using tried and true methods while making wine that is lively and contemporary.
