CLAUDIO PLESSI

San Lorenzo Caselnuovo Rangone, Italy

In 1958 Claudio Plessi’s parents bought the vineyard that he would later take over. After studying agriculture in Reggion Emilia and Parma and Piacenzi he took charge of vineyard Belussi in 1986. The next year he was one of the founding members of Il Salto- a consortium of organic and biodynamic farmers in the region. As a professor of agriculture, he continues as a champion of the biological movement in Emilia.

In 2004 he planted 3.5 ha of indigenous grapes around his parents' home. The soil is a mixture of clay and limestone. Claudio practices single varietal production, a practice that allows the district characteristics of the grapes to show. He is also a member of the Vignaiolo Artigiani Naturali (association of natural winemakers), whose objective is producing wine using hand-picked grapes from one's own vineyard.
